Day 433 -- Brick By Brick

And other Anne Lamott adjacent titles

How do you work through decisions?

Do you do the thing of thinking through all the possible scenarios and outcomes?

Do you do the thing where you begin thinking it through then it gets overwhelming and you find yourself with pint one hand, spoon in the other and Love on the Spectrum is playing?

Do you tap into other intelligence centers? Like the body? Like nature? Like some kind of prayer?

I tend to write.

I tend to write. And let it fly.

This serves me.

There is somehow a wisdom that fights through the noise of the brain to offer me something significant and needed.

In this episode, I share some writing I did back in 2022.

I was falling in love with my now wife, Kelly, and I knew it would mean that I would have to move away from western Massachusetts to join her and her kids in Sandpoint Idaho.

This was happening at the same time that my work in the world was becoming more clear. And I was caught in the thinking that my work wouldn’t be able to make the journey with me across the country.

These two emergences: my love and my work, we’re putting me into a tailspin.

Well, we safely landed the plane. All souls on board made it.

And I was wise to hesitate. I was wise to be in turmoil. And I was wiser when I decided to move across the country to Idaho.

This week’s piece is a single brick in a long brick road getting me to here.

I hope you enjoy it.

And I hope you consider contributing to next week’s episode. Listen to the end to hear what the prompt is.

Love,

Pete McLean
